Minimum Qualifications

The basic qualifications for certified positions is listed below. Please note the differences.

Deputy Sheriff (Certified position)

• A high school diploma or GED
• 21 years of age or older
• A United States citizen
• Current certification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards Training Center (FDLE CJSTC)
• Current, valid Florida drivers license at the time of hire
• Meet all applicable physical standards required by ACSO
• Of good moral character with no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral character or false statements
• Good driving record

Ability to successfully complete:

• Drug Screen
• Polygraph Examination
• Physical Examination
• Psychological Examination
• Physical Agility Test
• Firearms Test
• An applicant who applies for Deputy Sheriff must live in Alachua County or in a County continguous to Alachua County, providing their residence is no further than 20 minutes from the Alachua County line, or one (1) hour from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

Detention Deputy

All of the basic qualifications for a certified position plus:

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• A high school diploma or GED
• A United States citizen
• Possess current FDLE/CJSTC Florida Law Enforcement certification
• Current, valid Florida drivers license at the time of hire
• Meet all applicable physical standards required by ACSO
• Of good moral character with no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral character or false statements
• Good driving record

Corrections Officer

• A high school diploma or GED
• 19 years of age or older
• Current certification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards Training Center (FDLE CJSTC)
• Current, valid Florida drivers license at the time of hire
• Meet all applicable physical standards required by ACSO
• Of good moral character with no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral character or false statements
• Good driving record

Ability to pass:

• Drug Screen
• Polygraph Examination
• Physical Examination
• Psychological Examination
• Physical Agility Test
